JOHNNY CASH

JOHNNY CASH
I was a 13 year old boy in military school in 1956 when I first heard the song, "I WALK THE LINE", by Johnny Cash. That song floored me in a way I couldn't describe,.The key modulation I thought at the time was genius to say nothing of the lyric. Everything was perfect, and John loomed as a savior in my heart; he gave me a sense of freedom from my rigid surroundings and filled me with wonder, wonder that said," Chris, you can do that, you can learn to play a guitar and sing songs just like that"; and that I did, thank you John!!!! When I recorded CHRIS GANTRY AT THE HOUSE OF CASH it was a moment in time that I had risen to over years of working hard at the Dream on Music Row in Nashville. What I had gained is knowing that Johnny Cash considered me an equal in the art of the troubadour and the art of the song. That in itself was worth more and above all else that I had encountered on the streets of Music Row in my early days..When John told me after listening to the record I'd just made that he thought even the DRUG PEOPLE WERE'NT going to be able to understand it, I took that as a compliment in that I had transcended the genre of the times..Forty five years later it's still here as is my Love and Respect for Johnny Cash...
